Rescheduled: Boston 'Zou Tornado Relief Effort, now 6/21

Spread the word! This event has been rescheduled. Due to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals, our venue is unable to accommodate our event, tomorrow. Because of this, we will be hosting it on Tuesday, June 21.

On June 21, 2011, The Greater-Boston Chapter of the Mizzou Alumni Association (The Boston ‘Zou) will host a fundraiser and silent auction to benefit victims of the recent tornadoes in the Joplin, MO, and Springfield, MA areas. Mizzou Alumni Association members, and all interested parties, will gather at Brighton Beer Garden (386 Market St., Brighton) from 6-9PM.

“It’s heartbreaking to see people from your home state going through such a tragedy and not have the ability to help in-person,” said David Sprague, the chapter’s president. “Hopefully our efforts will help, in some small way, the recovery efforts.”

The Brighton Beer Garden and a number of Boston-area businesses have donated gift certificates and services to be auctioned off. All proceeds will go directly to the United Way campaigns responding to both Joplin (Heart of Missouri) and Springfield (Pioneer Valley).

Silent Auction items include :

High-end Jewelry courtesy of Bellestar Jewelry in Hanover
Autographed Gary Pinkel Football
Red Sox Tickets
PawSox Tickets
Brockton Rox Tickets
Boston Blazers Tickets
Boston Cannons Tickets
We'll also have raffles for some great Mizzou memorabelia and gift cards to local vendors!

M--I--Z! Beat..K..U!

Hey everyone!

Thanks to those who joined us in Portsmouth, NH, last weekend for a fun event (despite the loss to KSU). We had about 20 folks in attendance for the trip. And, a number of us enjoyed a tour and some beer-tasting at the Red Hook Brewery, afterward. Nothing like drowning your sorrows in a glass of good craft beer, made on the premesis.

But, onward we look as the Tigers play host to archrival, Kansas, this Saturday! For those who ordered the 2011 Beat KU t-shirts at our Founders' Day celebration, we should have those available for you at the watch party.  Details below.

Founders' Day Wrap-Up

Thanks to all who came out for a fantastic evening at The Boston 'Zou's innaugural Founders' Day Celebration!  Last night, we gathered at our local home, the Brighton Beer Garden, for a pre-game networking session and to watch the Tigers host (and beat) Texas Tech.  Todd McCubbin, Executive Director of the Mizzou Alumni Association, joined us for the fun and lent his support and insight toward our efforts in growing the chapter.  And, we are also excited to share that Mizzou's own Brett Austin, (ESPN coordinating producer) and ESPN SportsCenter anchor/ABC's Wipeout co-host John Anderson also joined in the festivities!  All-around, very cool and down-to-earth guys!  Photos below.  (Aside: ESPN recruits aggressively from the MU School of Journalism and currently employs over 20 Mizzou grads.)

Be sure to check back for updates and details on our road trip to Portsmouth, NH on February 26!
