Homecoming Day of Service, 10/1

Tigers!
We all know Mizzou's spirit of service is unparalleled, especially during the Homecoming season where our beloved alma mater sets records for such things as blood and food donations. To that end, the Mizzou Alumni Association is engaging its chapters nation-wide in a Homecoming Day of Service on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Please join The Boston 'Zou as we take part in this effort at Saturday/Sunday's Bread.

Saturday/Sunday's Bread is a Boston soup kitchen with the mission of providing hot, healthy meals in a safe and inviting atmosphere, free from society’s prejudices and judgments, in an environment free of racial, cultural or religious stereotypes. It is an interfaith, interracial, interdenominational activity of people concerned with the hungry in the Boston area. Saturday/Sunday’s Bread is an entirely volunteer-run organization that has been providing meals to the hungry for over 25 years.

Saturday/Sunday's Bread is located at
St. John the Evangelist
35 Bowdoin St.
Boston, MA

This volunteer shift is from 12:30 to about 4 p.m. Volunteers will set up the dining area, prepare the meal, greet and serve diners, and help cleanup. Guests are served from 2:30 to 3:30. Cleanup follows from 3:30 to 4:00 or 4:15. The location is easily accessible by T (Bowdoin on the Blue Line, Government Center on the Green Line), and there is also nearby parking available. Teenaged-children may attend.
We will follow the service event by a fun social activity nearby, details TBA.
Please RSVP to TheBostonZou@gmail.com or by responding to the Facebook invitation. Hope to see you there!

Mizzou vs. OU Watch Party, 9/24

This is a big one, folks! Mizzou travels to Norman to begin "conference" play, this Saturday, against Oklahoma. We beat the Sooners, last year. And, with the much-needed confidence boost from last week's 69-0 trampling of Western Illinois, we know the Tigers can come away with a W.

The Boston 'Zou will gather at its Boston home of the Brighton Beer Garden, starting at 7:30. Appetizers are 50% off for watch party attendees during the game. We'll have our 50/50 half-time raffle. And, we'll continue to collect non-perishable/canned food items in support of the Tiger Food Fight. At our season-opener, we collected 22 pounds! (Food-only weight.) Let's keep up the good work, as we push to beat the 100 pound mark, this football season.

Kick-Off Wrap-Up

Thanks to all who joined us, this past Saturday, at the Brighton Beer Garden! We had a crowd of over 40 people meeting one another and cheering on the Tigers as they start the 2011 season at 1-0.  Shawn Cooper, of SolutionsByShawn.com and friend of Mizzou, captured our event on film.  Below is a link to some photos displaying many of the smiles and laughter shared throughout the afternoon.

Due to the horribly late timing of our Mizzou @ ASU game, two of our favorite Tigers have kindly offered up their home to host the watch party, September 9 at 10:30 p.m. in Durham, NH.  Please RSVP to thebostonzou@gmail.com if you wish to join us. We will confirm with the address and directions.

Because the Mizzou vs. Western Illinois game will be on Pay Per View, only, our next official watch party will be Mizzou @ Oklahoma on Saturday, September 24.  The pre-game social will begin at 7:30pm, and kick-off is at 8:00 pm, ET.  We'll gather at our Boston home: The Brighton Beer Garden.
